The old Whitney, up on Madison Avenue, never ever disappointed me. So when they decided to depart from the Breuer building for new digs at the south end of the High Line, I watched with real interest.

John Burroughs liked it there. So do we.
The day started with afternoon tea on the veranda, followed by a hike around the lake. There are more trails there than you could properly cover in a week, but we were just there for dinner and a sneak preview. A perfectly amazing place to go.

As part of our gala getaway, we stayed the night at the Minnewaska in Gardiner, NY. Up in the Catskills, it was a lovely building full of arts & crafts furniture, with a killer view from the back patio.
As of 1884, at least. This poster reminded me of a time back in the ’90s when I was standing at the southern end of City Hall Park in New York. Standing in one spot I could see four buildings that were, at the time they went up, the tallest buildings in the world; along with one more that was the tallest in New York.
