Amy Sherald at the Whitney

Elyse and I got to the Whitney in New York for the last day of this show. Last month Ms. Sherald pulled her show from the Smithsonian, because the Administration wanted her to remove the work titled “Trans Forming Liberty.” So the show, “American Sublime,” is moving just up I-95 to Baltimore, where the BMA will be hosting it starting November 2.

Amy Sherald is best known for doing the official portrait of Michelle Obama.

We were captivated by the scale of these works, her use of color, the way she monumentalizes her subjects whether they’re prominent figures, martyrs, or just ordinary folks. We liked it so much, we might go down to Baltimore to see it again!
