The Xanten Archaeological Park is a vast open-air museum, which aims to resurface an ancient Roman city. The park has some remarkable features, but it’s a work in progress. It’s really a project of excavating, reclaiming materials, and mapping.

Arena — The arena was a central feature of Roman cities. This one is largely intact.

catwalks — This large covered area was most interesting. Catwalks took you above and around excavations of the foundations and some of the walls of one district.

There isn’t that much, at least not yet. Still an interesting trip if you happen to be in that part of Germany.
