Here are some photos from a perfectly serene trip we took out to Chester, NJ this afternoon.

The old mill is a museum, but is closed during the winter season. We explored the grounds a little, and walked about a mile down the Black River taking photos. The cold snap had finally abated — several days in a row in the teens — but the evidence was right there at the mill race.

Under the raceway, there was a huge ice cave. I (gingerly) walked in and took a few pictures before retreating back to safety.

Seen from a little ways down the trail, this could be next year’s Christmas card.
