Not like I’ve followed football at all this year. But the game tonight against Green Bay has to go down as one of the classic playoff games. Two closely matched teams shot it out, with big plays, and very few turnovers. Good officiating too, such penalties as there were, were all legit. And the Giants win in overtime — after missing a game-winning kick as regulation expired. Eli Manning has really stepped up.
And the third-coldest game in NFL history. 4 below — brr.
Now will the game against New England be a ritual sacrifice?
That was a very entertaining game to watch. I feel bad for Brett Favre but I predicted amongst friends over drinks that he would bow out of the playoffs with an interception. I wish I was wrong.
I’m rooting for the Giants because they’re the underdogs. Nice rivalry NY vs. Boston. There should be some heated screaming matches on sports radio the next few weeks.
My parents are down in Ft. Meyers FL., the Red Sox spring training home, and would love to see N.Y. win and silence all those Pat’s fans they live amongst.
Full disclosure time. If N.Y. was playing San Diego instead I be rooting for the surfer dudes.
I’m grateful to see two northeastern teams in it. The real heated Boston vs. New York rivalry isn’t with the Giants — it’s with the Jets, because they play in the same division.
The Pats and Giants don’t play each other regularly enough to register that much interest. And there’s no love lost between Giants and Jets fans; Giants fans are as likely to root against the Jets than against the Pats.
Interesting story in the paper about that last field goal. When the third-down pass was incomplete the place kicker just ran out onto the field without waiting to be told. He wanted the coach to have to call him back — and didn’t want to give him the chance to call for a punt.
Gutsy move after missing the last two attempts at shorter distances, but I guess that’s one reason why he’s playing the game instead of watching it in his family room.
Thanks for the insight about the Giants and Jets fans.
Well I’m sure glad i didn’t make a firm prediction about last night’s game! That was a lot of fun to watch.
My grandson in Brooklyn is all about the Giants now.:D
That was a good game. Hard played, tough and smart. It took the Pats a little too long to figure out the Giants defense which they eventually did on their last drive. I give ’em credit for that, but I was rootin’ for the Giants. Yay!
