I’ve been having a lot of fun with my new Nikon D40. It lets me do a lot of things I couldn’t do with my point-and-shoot, and here’s a nice example. This waterfall is up in South Mountain Reservation in Maplewood. Claire suggested it would be nice to shoot it and try to get that “silky” effect. So I went up one afternoon with my tripod and a couple of filters, and here’s the result.
I used a two-second exposure with a .6 neutral-density filter to slow things down, stacked onto a circular polarizing filter to get rid of the excess glare from the water. The blue is real (that is, not retouched in), a side-effect of the exposure and the polarizing filter.
