New Developments

Launched www.janetlfalk.com, a site I built for a former colleague of mine from PSA/TBMA.

Well for one the redesign of the site...

Teall & Associates, a site for a New York PR agency.

Loops & Hoops, an online X-Cart store. It features the typeface previewer described below. Here's the story behind it.

A typeface previewer using sIFR. Give it a spin.

A recoding and general cleaning-up of a site for Lydia Johnson Dance.

An article on manipulating Joomla/Mambo menus and the hub pages they generate.

The revamped site for TransitionWorks, simplifying the online community of this well-established group. The live site is here, and you can read about the development of this Drupal-based site here.

An earlier post on sIFR.

About My Work

Redesign!

After two-plus years of the same look (the "arches" or "curves"), I've decided to go with something different. The new one is based on my "swamp" theme that is on my blog, though with a different photo and a somewhat different color scheme. So far I'm contenting myself with making it work for IE7, Firefox and Safari. I'll see if IE6 requires major intervention or not. Before that, you're on your own.

About Me

me I live in Maplewood, NJ, and work at Seton Hall University. In addition, I'm a freelance web developer hoping to help you with your project. The work I've done has included two big sites: the former www.bondmarkets.com (now altered and folded into www.sifma.org), and www.investinginbonds.com, as well as four or five satellite sites that representeded subdivisions of the company (more about these in the Samples section), plus a good number of sites for clients.

I aim for clean code and smart content-management solutions. Besides case studies, you'll also find some technical/philosophical articles here relating to the process and tools for web site building. More of this (most of it really) is covered in the blog section.

I live here with my daughter and my devoted dog, Brandy, in a nice bungalow-style house that I try to keep neat enough to almost live up to my arts-and-crafts-style tastes.

Besides that, I'm a semi-pro trumpet player, and I do a lot of classical — orchestral playing with orchestras in New York. Making a living as a musician isn't something I ever expect to really do, but it's a great hobby anyway. More about these groups, including samples, in the Friends section.

For relaxation and exercise, long-distance bike riding is the thing. I ride with the Morris Area Freewheelers club. If you don't know this area, you might think of New Jersey as a barren wasteland of subdivisions punctuated by chemical plants. But you'd be wrong. Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset and Warren counties are beautiful places with lots of farms, forests and wide open roads. I also enjoy hiking and exploring with some of my good friends.
