As a parting gesture to Manny Ramirez, here’s his famous “high five.” Catches the ball up against the fence, high-fives a fan in the stands, then pivots and throws a runner out. Does everything but put mustard on the guy’s hot dog and boy am I glad to see him off to the National League.

Under The Rainbow

Hiking with a friend in the Rez Sunday night, we sat down for a rest at the overlook just as big storm system passed to the south of us. As it moved across Essex County towards New York Harbor and Brooklyn we got to see an unusual sight: a horizon-to-horizon perfect rainbow, and underneath it all of New York from past the Empire State Building down over the Verrazano Bridge.

Friday’s Ride

Another successful assault on Watchung Mountain. This one is 39 miles — I’d really hoped to stretch it to 40 but I draw the line at circling the block a few times to do it. This long narrow loop carves out some less-heavily traveled roads in this fairly busy part of the state.
