Greetings From Lewisburg, PA

July 10th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Tech Stuff, Travelogues |

Yesterday I was out at Bucknell University in Lewisburg for the Mid-Atlantic Digital Library Conference. It was a terrific event, a full day of concurrent sessions on a lot of topics surrounding the digitization, archiving and presentation of archival materials. It was especially relevant because some of the key DSpace people were there, and it’s an application I’ve been trying to get my arms around for a few months now. But this isn’t about the technical stuff, let’s move right along to the travelogue…

Relax, It’s All In Your Head

July 10th, 2008 | 0 Comments | Politics |

You thought it was the collapse of your home equity. Or the vertiginous interest rates on your credit cards. Maybe that feeling you get looking at your 401(k) balance — you know, the same feeling you get in your stomach going down that first big hill on a roller coaster? Phil Gramm has the answer [...]

Delaware Water Gap

July 8th, 2008 | 0 Comments | Travelogues |

For years I’ve driven through the Delaware Water Gap, that tremendous cut that the Delaware River flows through between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. I’d always meant to stop and walk around a little, but I was always with the family either just starting, or just ending, a long trip; it never worked out.

The Hulk

July 7th, 2008 | 0 Comments | Movies |

Iron Man has already left the theaters around here, so I checked out the remake of “The Incredible Hulk” this afternoon. After the intense silliness of the Ang Lee version of a few years back, one can understand Marvel’s desire to try again and do it right. I mean really, that long episode of Hulk [...]

37 Signals, a developer of web-based groupware, is officially phasing out support of IE6 in its next generation of development. The product of theirs I’m most familiar with is Basecamp, a project-management application which is used in a couple of places I’ve worked. Unlike the XP-to-Vista migration, IE6 to IE7 is pretty easy across both [...]

Happy Fourth Of July

In honor of the holiday, there’s a virtual reading of the Declaration of Independence going on over at MOL. Everyone ought to read through the Declaration once a year, and what better day than today?

Borderline Libel

Here’s another interesting Googlemaps mash-up, rottenneighbor.com. Useful information no doubt; but also no doubt than somewhere sometime it’s going to lead to something ugly. Enter in an address or zip code and you’ll see a map of the neighborhood with little red, yellow or green (mostly red) Monopoly-style houses with comments about what makes that [...]

In Other Words, Why Don’t You Guys Find Some Actual News To Cover?

July 2nd, 2008 | 0 Comments | Politics |

“I guess my question is why, given all the vast numbers of things that we’ve got to work on, that that would be a top priority of mine?” Obama said, responding to a reporter who asked the candidate why he hadn’t called on Wesley Clark to apologize for his remarks yesterday. “I’m happy to have [...]
