Two nights in a row on Assoteague Island we got to watch thunderstorms roll in from the mainland. It’s big-sky country out there, and it was hard to get a real handle on how far away they were or where they were headed.

Ahh The Beach

First day’s destination: the hip and stylish Berkeley Hotel in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Not even a block from the beach, just across the way from the Paramount, this is one of the places-you-want-to-be down at the shore.

Down in Maryland this weekend visiting with the LF’s family, we took Saturday to go exploring. Plan A was to go to Sandy Point Park, then Annapolis; but we couldn’t find anywhere to eat in the neighborhood, so we went over the bridge over to the Eastern Shore.

Here’s The Daughter, Sunday morning when I took her to the airport. She’s taking her first-ever vacation without one of the ‘rents, having made all the arrangements and reservations herself. I feel older, but proud of her.

If you can get out to northwestern New Jersey, manage the bad or missing road signs, cope with the closed roads, and handle two miles of pothole-ridden gravel road, you’ll find it easily.
