The climb up Watchung Mountain is pretty brutal, but that spiraling downhill on the south end us wicked cool.

We did 37 miles and change with the bike club this morning. A perfect day — sunny and warm, but low humidity. Riding through the shady sections was nice and cool.
I don’t usually (or usually don’t) make New Year’s resolutions, but since this year I did I tried to make a special effort to fulfill one of them. That was to “ride my age” before spring.

How’d I do? Read on.
I went out this afternoon on my bike with one aim in mind: Ride until I saw a horse, then turn around and loop home. How far would I have to go?

This is a good 20-miler that I like to do early in the morning before traffic picks up. After that it’s not bad, just noisier and more crowded so you can’t “make” the red lights as easily, if you know what I mean. Echo Lake LoopFind more Bike Rides in Maplewood, New Jersey Other than [...]
More not-great luck with the cycle club this morning. The scheduled ride was for 52 miles, which would have fulfilled my New Year’s resolution to ride my before spring was out. After my successful first trip, I got up early Tuesday morning, but twenty minutes into the ride it started to rain. A minor inconvenience, but it shut me down [...]
After too long a layout, yesterday I hit the road again. Now when you’ve been as lazy and unmotivated as I’ve been, getting going again isn’t as easy as all that. I was reminded of it immediately when, after pulling on my suddenly way-too-small (if you get my drift) cycling clothes and pulling the bike [...]
Maybe a two-year suspension isn’t enough. If they started handing out lifetime bans maybe the rules would get a little respect, and the sport could salvage some of its lost credibility.
Landis is innocent until proven otherwise, but pro sports in general is guilty as charged. Now, the final sprint to the finish line isn’t the real drama. You don’t know who’s really won until a couple of days later when the lab results return.
Written off for dead after hitting the wall on Wednesday, Landis resurrected himself on Thursday. He made a gritty, ballsy, very risky move on the peloton early, and beat everyone by nearly six minutes.
