Profiles in Crazy
Ben Quayle. Son of J. Danforth. Running for Congress in Arizona. Dig this:
Yes, it’s funny how he trips over the first line, like the teleprompter was blinking out on him and he had to ad lib for a second there. And how he thinks Obama is worse than James Buchanan (who let the Union fall apart under his watch), Andrew Johnson (who came drunk to his own inauguration), or even George W. Bush.
Or that drug cartels in Mexico are something never even imagined until January 2009. Or that the tax code has changed an iota since the last President.
And of course, the punchline.
But I love how he tells us he was raised in Arizona. Wait a minute — wasn’t his dad the Senator from Indiana? Here’s what conservapedia says:
graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, Indiana, in 1965. He graduated from DePauw University in 1969 and received his J.D. from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in 1974, and was admitted to the Indiana Bar in 1974 and began his law practice in Huntington. Quayle served in the Indiana National Guard from 1969 until 1975.
How’d he work that out? But we’re not here to pick on Dan. We’re here to pick on Junior.
Oh but wait!

He’s the fourth generation of his family — that includes the above-mentioned Senator from Indiana, and his grandfather who was the publisher of a newspaper in Indiana. Maybe he’s the fourth generation of regular guys to spend a few weeks every winter at their second (or third) home that happens to be in Arizona?
But he’s part of a new generation that walks small dogs, and of course, building families. It’s right there at the 0:18 mark. But guess what?
