Lost in Lost

The new season of Lost promised answers, lots of answers, gushing forth faster than you could keep up. So why do I feel like I have more questions now than I did last summer?

I guess there are people out there who puzzle over this stuff endlessly, and I admit it’s kind of fun to tinker around with occasionally. But seriously, I’d already forgotten half of the new characters that showed up last year. And now there’s these leftover ‘60s guys in the temple wearing pink turbans?

The concept of parallel universes isn’t new (it’s foundational to quantum mechanics) and I think there’s got to be more going on than a bifurcation of the present after the H-bomb went off. It’s not merely split into two tracks — there are three copies of John out there. Pick your Locke, so to speak.

C. and I spoke halfway through the two-hour premiere. She asked if I was disappointed. “Not yet, but there’s another hour left” was basically how the response went. Actually, several more months. But the big payoff isn’t in sight yet.
