Six Reasons Why Movable Type Sucks

Just off the top of my head, in no particular order, a few random things that are driving me crazy today about this blogging platform. Some of them you’ll need to have the program installed to see. But take my word for it, these are all part of the latest version of the multi-thousand dollar Enterprise Version.
One: There’s a button on the “Select a Style” page that’s labelled “Download new styles.” Do a search for this phrase on the movabletype.org site and no pages are found. Click on the built-in “help” link at the top of the page. Nice touch.
Two: Click the link and follow the directions, downloading the styles you’ve created with a proper URL etc. etc. You’ll see your new thumbnails installed, and you can even apply them and publish them. Now go away from that Styles page, then come back. Where the F did they all go?
Three: Post on the movabletype.org documentation forum. Spend five or ten minutes clearly outlining your problem and click “Post” or “Preview.” You get a “not found” error.
Four: You can visit the documentation area starting here, and click forward-and-back to see all the things that there are no documentation for.
Five: You can subscribe to the developer mailing list. Once you’re on and receiving messages, your own posts will be automatically rejected.
Six: Searching their site is pointless. Enter almost any search term and the first result will be “Movable Type 4.3 Release Notes.” The rest of the time you’re likely to get an error, no matter how simple your term. I just did a search for “variables” and got one result: “Thank you for attending our webinar.” When I clicked on the link I was returned to the home page.
