Three Years On The Web
May 9th, 2009 | 0 Comments | Tech Stuff |
In the shuffle this week I forget to note that tom-mcgee.com has been on the Web for three years. The actual date is lost somewhere in the sands of time, but by my best reckoning the launch date was May 6, 2006.
Since then, the site has had 13,164 visitors, and 27,800 page views. The most popular items here have been this blog, launched in June 2006; three articles about using sIFR, the Flash-based font tool for web use; my resume; the Samples & Examples page; and the geeky piece on Joomla and Mambo menus. Another geeky item about CubeCart is catching up.
People find the site usually by looking for me by name, primarily. Following that they’re looking for material on sIFR, Maplewoodstock or the search term, “cubecart sucks.” I guess I’m not alone in thinking that.
The biggest month was June 2008, the month that a very damaging storm hit my town. I posted some on-the-scene photos and the carnage attracted over 1,000 visitors. The most page views were in October, 2008 — though I think mostly that was just me and my cousin banging away against my new Genealogy program.
Most of the visitors have come from the US. Next in line (at a 12-1 ratio) were the UK, Canada, the Netherlands and Australia. The most-active US states were, naturally, New Jersey and Ohio, followed by California and New York. But visitors have come from every state in the union, and all but three countries in the Americas, all of Europe, all of Asia except Afghanistan, Iraq, some of the southerly former Soviet republics, Myanmar, Laos and New Guinea.
In keeping with people searching me out by name, most of my traffic comes from Google. Beyond that, I get referrals from maplewoodonline.com, southorangevillage.com (the two neighboring towns I live in), yazoostreet.blogspot.com (thanks, Anthony Cartouche), and nj.com.
So thanks to you all for your support and patronage. It’s nice to know that these random diary entries are being seen by someone. I hope you continue to find it useful and entertaining.
