Saturday and a trip to The Cloisters, the Met’s beautiful hilltop showcase of medieval art. The building is actually assembled out of pieces of ancient and abandoned churches and cloisters that were hauled over here and reassembled. Along with the actual spaces where the orders lived and worked are examples of the statuary, tapestries and other sacred objects of the period.
Afterwards we headed downtown for dinner in Chinatown and a trip to Little Italy to pick up some cannolis. We’re such tourists. But Mulberry street was packed with diners at the outdoor cafes, relaxing and enjoying themselves at crowded tables — on November 1.
