Well the sign said it was only a mile. A mile mostly straight up. Mount Beacon, on the outskirts of Beacon, New York, used to house a casino and hotel at its summit. An incline train would take revelers up and down. But styles change, and buildings burn down, and now all that’s left are the remains of some foundations and the brick walls of the powerhouse at the top that drove the cables that pulled the train cars.
