Maybe you’ve heard this story, it usually goes like this: Arnold Schonberg and George Gershwin used to play tennis together sometimes. Gershwin was interested in widening his scope a little, compositionally speaking, so he asked Schonberg if he’d give him lessons.
Schoenberg asked him how much he made last year. Gershwin responded with something along the lines of a million bucks. Schoenberg then suggested maybe he should give him lessons.
Probably apocryphal, since sometimes I hear it told with Stravinsky and Gershwin. Anyway I was just thinking of it because I saw this photo on LastFM’s web site.
