Suburban Archaeology, Part I

Saturday afternoon we returned to Watchung Reservation to explore a little more the ruins of the former mill and stone quarry there. Close by where we found the old ketchup bottle is a depression where the foundation hole of one of the buildings had been.

Here’s the northwest corner.

The remnants of what appears to be the threshhold.

This post was standing, another nearby was lying on its side.

Over the next day or two I’ll post some others. We worked our way around to the far end of the cliff you can see in the upper left of this photo, and I got close enough to the edge to see some of these from above.
